A Comparison of Multiresolution and Classical One-Dimensional Homogenization Schemes

چکیده

Homogenization is a collection of methods for extracting or constructing equations for the coarse-scale behavior of solutions to equations which incorporate many scales. This paper compares the classical method of homogenization with the recently developed multiresolution strategy for a particular class of onedimensional second-order elliptic equations. We also examine several physical examples which highlight the distinctions between the two methods. q 1998

On Multiresolution Methods in Numerical Analysis 4832

As a way to emphasize several distinct features of the mul-tiresolution methods based on wavelets, we describe connections between the multiresolution LU decomposition, multigrid and multiresolution re-duction/homogenization for self-adjoint, strictly elliptic operators. We point out that the multiresolution LU decomposition resembles a direct multigrid method (without W-cycles) and that the al...

When the classical & quantum mechanical considerations hint to a single point; a microscopic particle in a one dimensional box with two infinite walls and a linear potential inside it

In this paper we have solved analytically the Schrödinger equation for a microscopic particle in a one-dimensional box with two infinite walls, which the potential function inside it, has a linear form. Based on the solutions of this special quantum mechanical system, we have shown that as the quantum number approaches infinity the expectation values of microscopic particle position and square ...

A Multiresolution Method for Numerical Reduction and Homogenization of Nonlinear ODEs

The multiresolution analysis (MRA) strategy for the reduction of a nonlinear differential equation is a procedure for constructing an equation directly for the coarse scale component of the solution. The MRA homogenization process is a method for building a simpler equation whose solution has the same coarse behavior as the solution to a more complex equation. We present two multiresolution red...

Compression of color image using nonlinear multiresolutions

A comparison between several linear and nonlinear multiresolution algorithms for image color compression is presented. Some nonlinear techniques adapted to the presence of edges emerge as good alternatives to classical linear schemes. The numerical stability of the schemes is analyzed.

Adaptive Multiresolution Discontinuous Galerkin Schemes for Conservation Laws: Multi–Dimensional Case

The concept of multiresolution-based adaptive DG schemes for nonlinear one-dimensional hyperbolic conservation laws has been developed and investigated analytically and numerically in N. Hovhannisyan, S. Müller, R. Schäfer, Adaptive multiresolution Discontinuous Galerkin Schemes for Conservation Laws, Math. Comp., 2013. The key idea is to perform a multiresolution analysis using multiwavelets o...
